2021-2022 Lottery Results

Thank you to all the interested future Phoenix!!!!

Below are the results of our 2021-2022 Lottery.

Procedures

  • As indicated in the JJMS Charter, Lottery Procedures are taped to the front of the room, making them available for the public.
  • An email receipt was sent to all applicants from the email enrollment2122@jamesjordanms.com
  • For the 2021-22 school year,  we have 145 seats for 6th-grade students.  We have reviewed the applications and found that 24 students who qualify for an admission preference as specified in the JJMS Charter and detailed on the lottery form and on our website.  If we have more applicants than spaces for a particular grade level, the lottery will proceed.  If we have space for all 6th-grade applicants, there will be no lottery and all 6th-grade applicants will be offered enrollment.
  • We are delighted to see that our current students are all planning to return.  This means that we will not have any seats available for 7th and 8th grade in the 2021-22 school year.  This means that a lottery will be held for those grade levels.
  • If a lottery is needed, a ticket with their name and receipt number for each applicant that did not qualify for admission preference will be placed into the box for the desired grade level.  A board member and JJMS staff member with no affiliation to the applicants is chosen to draw the tickets out of the box and announce their placement on the list. All names will be pulled from the box in sight of the audience and assigned a number that indicates the order in which they will be offered enrollment.  The Administrators of the school will project a screen that shows them filling in a spreadsheet with the ticket name and list number as each ticket is drawn from the box.  At the end of this process, a JJMS administrator will ask if anyone has questions.
  • If there was no lottery needed, the admissions list will be published outside the main office and on the school website.   All applicants that are offered admission will be notified by phone/text blast using the school’s system.
  • The results of the lottery are posted onsite an hour after the lottery ended outside the Main Office (L building ) to the school as well as the secondary entrance (Staff gate), as well as on the school website by 3/13/2021.
  •  Following a lottery, the school will contact applicants in order of the numbers that they were assigned at the lottery.  When the school fills all available seats for a grade level, the lottery numbers will indicate a position on the waiting list.
  • Students who are offered admission must show up on the first day of school, August 16th, or they will forfeit their seat.
  • All applicants, now on the waiting list will be mailed a letter with their ticket number, their position on the waiting list, and  a copy of the Element 8 Admission Requirements Section (D) Lottery Procedures #8 from the JJMS Charter .

Waitlist Information

The JJMS Charter includes the following Admission Requirements in

Element 8 ,Section (D), #8 .

Preference is extended to siblings of currently enrolled students, this would be any child who has the same legal guardian or parent of a currently enrolled JJMS student.

Preference is extended to the children of JJMS staff including teachers, paraprofessionals, classified staff, administrators, and members of official councils (ELAC and SSC) and to the children of the JJMS Board of Trustees. This preference shall not exceed 10% of the total enrollment. The purpose of this preference is to maximize the availability of parents/guardians as part of the school community. Also, this preference allows parents/guardians who are often on campus to be in close proximity to their own children to allow easier execution of parental duties while minimizing the impact on school operations. For example, if a parent had to travel to another campus to pick up their student or to meet with a teacher, there would be a negative impact on the child, the parent, and the operations of JJMS.

When a person on the waiting list is offered a space at the school, they shall be notified by phone (at least 3 attempts) and shall be given 24 hours to respond from the third phone call.

Waitlist Process

  • April – The school will have confirmation of all accepted students from the March 13, 2021 Lottery. If anyone declines or does not respond within the indicated time, we will call the next person on the waitlist.  Anyone who applies to JJMS after March 12, 2021, 10 PM  will be placed into the lottery box for the second lottery to be held on June 5th, 2021.
  • June- A second lottery is held to assign waitlist order to all applications that were submitted after the first lottery that was held in March 2021.
  • July - The school will call all families that have officially accepted a space for the 2021-2022 school year. If anyone who accepted admission withdraws from our list, we will call the next student on the waitlist to fill that seat.
  • August – The school will call any families that did not show up to the first official school event. If anyone indicates that they no longer plan to enroll, we will call the next person on the waitlist.
  • August 16, 2021 (First Day of School)- The school will contact the families of any students who do not show up, and the absent students will be contacted by phone/text/email that they are forfeiting their space at the school. The absent students will be allowed to show up on the second day of school to claim their seat.  If there are any available seats after 11am on the second day of school, JJMS will contact additional students according to the order they are listed on the waitlist.
