Welcome to my classroom website! My name is Mr. Chavez and I am beyond thrilled for the opportunity to teach your students the wonderful world of history.  This will be my second year teaching at JJMS.  I graduated magna cum laude from California State University, Northridge in 2016 with my B.A. in History and a double minor in Philosophy and Russian Studies.  In 2019, I earned my M.A. in Education from CSUN.

Despite what many might think, the objective of learning about history is not about memorizing facts and dates.  Rather, we study history to understand big ideas about how human society has evolved over time.  As a result, my classroom focuses much more on facilitating student-led discussion so that students practice their oral fluency skills both in language acquisition and critical thinking skills.
